This year, the CCD has an opportunity to join an effort with the Cambodian Buddhist Society, Inc to bring you Lakahon Bassac entitled Preah Chinavong and Children Traditional Clothing Show to be performed during Khmer New Year Saturday April 12th 2014 12:00 PM at Cambodian Buddhist Temple 13800 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring MD 20904.

When is Cambodian/Khmer New Year 2014?

The 2014 Khmer New Year Days fall on the 14, 15, and 16 of April. On April 14th at 8:07 AM, it marks the end of Buddhist year 2557 BE (Buddhist Era – based on the Lunar Calendar) and the start of New Year 2558, the year of Horse. The New Year’s angel of this year is Koreakak Tevy, the second daughter of Kabil Moha Prum. Her hair is adorn with Angkeabos flower hairpin. She carries a sword with her right hand and a cane at the left. Her vehicle is tiger. Her favorite food is cooking oil.

Sam Relief  Dec 2012 Newsletter

Replica of Angkor Wat

We have bought a replica of Angkor Wat (picture shown above). It is a sculpture made out from stone, by a sculptor in Pursat province, Cambodia. It is 1.3 meter long, 1.1 meter wide and .35 meter high. It took more than 2 months to complete the sculpture. Click the picture to enlarge.


Phare Ponleu Selpak

Phare Ponleu Selpak (website: www.phareps.org) is a Cambodian association providing artistic activities to children and adults around the Battambang vicinity. The artistic fields are: performing arts (circus, theater, dancing, music), visual arts (cartoon animation, painting contemporary, illustration and graphic design) and social actions (governmental school pre-school through high school, child care center, and transitional youth house).
